A community engagement director plans a city-wide recycling drive across 5 districts. The districts recycle 1.2 tons, 0.9 tons, 1.5 tons, 800 kg, and 2.3 tons of material respectively. If 1 ton = 1000 kg and each ton of recycled material saves 1.5 tons of CO₂, how many tons of CO₂ are saved?
Convert kg to tons: 800 kg = 0.8 tons, 2.3 tons already in tons.
Totals: 1.2 + 0.9 + 1.5 + 0.8 + 2.3 = <<1.2+0.9+1.5+0.8+2.3=6.7>>6.7 tons.
CO₂ saved: 6.7 × 1.5 = <<6.7*1.5=10.05>>10.05 tons.

A science policy analyst models electric vehicle (EV) adoption. If a city has 450,000 cars, and EV adoption grows exponentially at 20% per year, while total traffic remains constant, how many EVs will there be after 3 years, assuming 5% of cars are EVs initially?
Initial EVs: 5% of 450,000 = 0.05 × 450,000 = <<0.05*450000=22500>>22,500.
Growth formula: Final = Initial × (1 + r)^t = 22,500 × (1.20)^3.
Final EVs: 22,500 × 1.728 = <<22500*1.728=38880>>38,880.
