Can You Really Play Red Dead Redemption on Steam Right Now?

Everyone is talking about crossplay and legacy games. This question matters because Rockstar platforms keep changing.

Can You Really Play Red Dead Redemption on Steam Right Now? is/are a common mix-up. The base game is not there. Red Dead Redemption 2 is on Steam, but the first game stays on Rockstar Launcher.

Here is how the compatibility actually works. Research shows this confusion happens because Rockstar links accounts across stores. You can redeem your Rockstar game key inside the launcher, even if you bought it elsewhere. Studies indicate playing via the Rockstar client is required for online features on PC.

One simple takeaway: Use the Rockstar Launcher to play, and you are good to go.
